HSMR - Hospital Standardized Mortality Ratio

The Hospital Standard Mortality Ratio (HSMR) is an important measurement tool that provides hospitals with a starting point to assess their mortality trends, identify opportunties for improvement and track their progress.

Public reporting of the HSMR is calculated by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) and the results are posted annually on their website.  Only certain hospitals are included in the CIHI reporting.  McCausland Hospital results are not included because we do not meet CIHI's sample size requirements (2,500 qualifying cases in each of the three years being released).

If you have any questions about our hospital's infection prevention and control program, please contact Teresa Roberts at 825-3273, ext 129.
